Why does the wife sit to the left of the husband? What astrology says about it?
According to astrology consultancy, a man has been born from the right wing of Brahma and a woman from the left wing. This is the reason why the woman is called Vamangi and after marriage it is customary to make her sit on the left side of the husband. One more thing to be considered here is that when male-dominated religious functions are performed, then the wife is made to sit on the south (right) side. In contrast, in female-oriented religious ceremonies, the wife sits on the left side of the husband.
The wife should remain on the left side of the husband even while blessing and washing the feet of the Brahmin. In the scriptures, the wife has been given the status of Vamangi, which means the possessor of the left limb. Therefore, the left side of the body of men is considered to be that of women. The reason for this is that the woman was born from the left limb of Lord Shiva, which symbolizes the Ardhanarishvara body of Mahadev. But in many cases in the scriptures, women have also been asked to be on the right side. In which women have to do some work by staying on the right side. Let us know when the wife should be on the right and when on the left.
What is the religious and classical belief behind this
In the scriptures, the wife is the left side of the man, so while donating vermilion, diving, while eating, while sleeping, at the time of service, while receiving blessings and while washing the feet of the brahmins, the wife should remain on the left side of the husband. This gives auspicious results and resolve husband wife dispute.
Even after being left-handed, the scriptures tell the wife to do some work by staying on the right side. It has been told in the scriptures that the wife should sit on the right side of the husband on the auspicious occasion of marriage, yagyakarma and jaatkarma, naming and food prashan.
The logic behind the belief that the wife should sit on the right and left side of the husband is that the work which is worldly or the work which is this worldly, the wife should sit on the left side of the man. For example, while filling vermilion in demand, while serving, at the time of sleeping, etc., the wife does the work of Vamangi. Yagya, while donating a girl child, marriage etc. All these auspicious works are male dominated. Therefore, in these works, the rule for the wife to sit on the right side of the man is mentioned in the scriptures.
Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Ardhanarishvara because a woman was born from the left side of Lord Shiva. This incarnation of God gives the message of equality of man and woman. Shiva had taken this form on his own wish so that he could give the message to the world that a man is incomplete without a woman and a woman is incomplete without a man. Men and women are equal in the eyes of God and both are equally respected.
There is a story in Shiv Purana that how Lord Shiva told the officer of his Vamangi. According to the legend, when Lord Rama went to exile for 14 years, Goddess Sati took the form of Sita to take his examination. But Lord Rama recognizes Mata Sati and prays to her.
